A fibre obtained from the leaves of the raffia palm, which is grown in Africa. Strips about 3 feet long and 1/4-in. to 1/2-in. wide are usual, and these can be separated into finer fibres. The natives of Madagascar use them for a variety of fabrics, mats and plaited articles. -
